About Me

Who I Am

I am an experienced piano teacher, adjudicator, performer, and father of two. I am passionate about helping my students achieve their goals and have fun along the way. I bring energy and enthusiasm to every lesson as I support students in creatively searching for solutions and celebrating their successes.

I teach at the Maritime Conservatory of Music (Halifax), Chinook School of Music (Calgary), and privately in person and online. I have been teaching for nearly twenty years, and have been adjudicating music festivals across Alberta for a decade. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Piano Performance from the University of Calgary where I was featured as a soloist with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, and an ARCT diploma from the Royal Conservatory. Before teaching piano lessons in Halifax, I worked in Calgary as the Piano Faculty Director at Chinook School of Music, the Director of Music at Parkdale United Church, and the Artistic Director of Cum Vino Cantus Choir.

Testimonials

Michael has been teaching my 5 year-old son to play piano and I am astounded at the progress he has made. He is a very talented and patient teacher who communicates well with young children. Michael creates a fun environment in which young ones can learn music and enjoy themselves in the process. My son tremendously enjoys his lessons and I couldn’t be happier. Thank you Michael!

Michelle

We have had the pleasure of having Michael teach our children piano for the past 2 years. He has a patient and friendly demeanour and goes beyond the basics to teach students lifelong skills to help them become successful musicians. I highly recommend Michael to anyone looking for a piano teacher!

Sylvia

I cannot say enough about how Michael has challenged me, supported me, and inspired me to play the piano. His passion and knowledge are infectious and wonderful. He has been my teacher for five years, and it is because of him that I have never regretted returning to this instrument as an adult. He is a consummate professional who communicates well, shares many helpful strategies, and is sincerely interested in my learning and my progress. While learning the piano with Michael, I have developed a new perspective and appreciation for this instrument and, indeed, for music itself.
